Please join me for any of these classes at $25 each, or prepay for all five classes at $100. Each class can stand alone without need to attend the previous ones. Those of you who already have credits for a certain number of my classes can use those credits for these classes. Please call me with questions and to reserve a spot in any class. I will then direct you to payment options.
There are countless ways you could walk or run. Depending on the terrain and your intention, some ways will work better at different times. My goal in this series of lessons is to help you be more adaptable and have more options. I'll leave the debate over the best running techniques, much of which seems focused on foot strike, to the coaches.
You don't even need feet, legs or prosthetics to walk. Watch this demonstration of a man with no legs walking beautifully over his sitting bones.
To walk, you do need a sufficiently functioning brain, spine, and pelvis with two base points. The lessons in this series are designed to help you move beyond a sufficient gait to one that is efficient, graceful, powerful, enjoyable, and adaptive to changing terrains and intentions. Explore how movements up and down your spine, coordinated with movements of your limbs, generate the actions of walking and running.
In each class we will do a lesson consisting mostly of lying on the floor doing slow, gentle movements rather than a lot of walking. The lessons are designed to clarify and refine particular patterns that can be involved in walking or running. If you are experiencing pain or injury in your neck, shoulders, back, or hips on down, you may find these lessons incredibly helpful.
This series is open to students with any level of Feldenkrais experience and most levels of ability. If you cannot lie comfortably on the floor or if you have severe pain, injury, or disability please contact me to discuss the suitability of this workshop for you. It may be that you would prefer individual, hands-on lessons (Functional Integration®) instead. While it is wonderful in some ways that The Retreat space has a nice padded floor, it is not wheelchair accessible for that very same reason.
*Please let me know if you are interested in wheelchair accessible classes.
